I Will - A Poem
When the void beckons,
and shadows conquer the night,
when darkness looms on the horizon -
I will stand
When nothing remains but sadness
and I find myself adrift,
when my soul is drained, empty -
I will resist
When the fires are exhausted,
and the embers die away,
when there is no reason to go on -
I will hope
When the Light finally fades,
and the world has been consumed,
when there is naught left but memory -
I will survive
When my heart breaks, bereft
and my soul withers, alone
when there is naught left but dust -
I will remain
When all love has been spurned,
and the world is but a grave,
when the last truth is spoken -
I will listen
When truth is beaten down
and the hearts of men turn black,
when all appears to be lost -
I will rise
When the loss grows too great
and surrender is all that remains,
when the spirit of man is broken,
I will fight
The inspiration for this poem is a bit complex, and I will not detail them here. Suffice to say, I was in a
strange place emotionally, and this poem was the result. - the Author
